2011 BREEDING RAVENS SURVEY

Many thanks are extended to all those that participated in the 2011 Raven survey. The survey has provided records of confirmed breeding of Ravens at 15 different sites in the county with birds holding territory at several other sites through the breeding season indicating probable breeding though nests were not located. The initial indication is therefore of a Cheshire and Wirral population of around 20 breeding pairs. Whilst some sites identified during the atlas survey continue to be occupied, others are not. Further analysis of the available data is proposed with a view to providing a more precise population estimate and possibly some insight into the movements of territories and nest sites between years. A full account of the findings will appear in the 2011 Bird Report in due course and will then be provided on the web site.
